Every winter, hundreds of whales migrate from the colder Arctic waters to spend the winter months in the warmer waters of Hawaii. These whales travel almost 3500 miles from their primary feeding area off the coast of Alaska to the waters of Hawaii. The migration itself takes anywhere from four to eight weeks and they spend about four months in Hawaii. It is speculated that the whales use ocean currents, change of temperature in the water and perhaps even the Earth's magnetic field to guide their way down to Hawaii.
